Can I test my DK in any JGHV affiliated club sponsored test Derby, Solms and AZP hosted by the VCDKK or NADKC?

Any VCDKK member may test within a JGHV affiliated club such as the VCDKK, VDD-GNA, VDD-Canada, NADKC or JGV-USA and may participate in an appropriate JGHV sponsored test.

If before I was a VCDKK member, I bred my DKV-registered dog to an AKC dog, is that considered a violation of the club by-laws?

No, not if it happened before you were a member.

Can I test my AKC, CKC, or NAVHDA registered GSP in DKV or JGHV testing events?

NO. Only dogs registered in breed clubs affiliated with the JGHV and FCI may test in JGHV or DKV sponsored tests. The stamps of the JGHV and FCI will be stamped on the dog’s ahnentafel. For more information regarding the testing organizations please see the Testing Program page of this website.

DK can only breed if they pass DKV/JGHV hunting test, certified X-rays, minimum confirmation rating and temperament evaluation.

We have no choice. Only Breed eligible dogs may breed.

Most DK’s are from VGP (utility tested) lineage.

This is a consistent and maintained breeding line from the start of the Deutsch Kurzhaar/DK until present day.

German imported dogs have been utilized and bred in the America’s but the DK is the only dog to follow the Deutsch Kurzhaar Verband performance testing, hunting and breeding practice of nearly

100 years!

What is the difference between a German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) and a Deutsch Kurzhaar (DK)?

German Shorthaired Pointer, North American name.

Deutsch Kurzhaar (DK)- English Translation, German Shorthair, German name.

GSP operates under different umbrella’s, like AKC, NAVDHA, CKC, field trials, show competition, etc….

DK operates under the DKV / Deutsch Kurzhaar Verband and JGHV testing systems.

GSP have their own and unique history.

GSP are free to breed all registered dogs.

Can I expect to find training opportunities in my area?

The VCDKK makes a concerted effort to provide training and testing opportunities to its members as well as training and testing advice and support. In addition, there are several other versatile hunting dog groups that provide regularly scheduled training days and JGHV sponsored hunting testing opportunities. VCDKK members are welcome to participate in many of them. We will make every attempt to help you locate opportunities in your area. Training opportunities will be posted on the members section of the website.
